SMS Robotics Team

Thanks for your interest in the SMS robotics team.  In 2014, students from 3rd, 4th and 5th grade can join the team.  6th graders can also register but at this time, it is not clear if we can support a 6th grade team due to the lack of full-time adult volunteers and logistical challenges. If you can volunteer to help with a 6th grade team, please contact Steve@tinefamily.com.

The teams will be competing in the updated 2014 VEX IQ Challenge.  The VEX IQ Challenge is an extra-curricular robotics competition designed for elementary/middle school students and gives students a chance to work together on a team to build a robot that could compete with other teams in the area.  In addition to learning about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), participants gain valuable teamwork and problem solving experience.

Each year the challenge (or game) that the robot must accomplish changes.  This year's game is called 'Highrise'. You can learn more about it here.

Due to the high level of interest and desire to ensure all students have hands-on time with the robot, we plan to have multiple teams this year with ~5 students per team. Each team will meet either Friday after school (2:45-4:30pm) or Saturday morning (9-10:30am) starting Oct 24th and ending by March 14th. The cost for each student will be $60.  If you'd like to join the team, please fill out the sign-up form below.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Steve Tine at Steve@tinefamily.com.

Currently all 5 teams are completely full.  Registrations at this point will be put on a wait-list.  If you know of an adult that is interested in individually mentoring a team on Friday (or any other day), please let me (Steve@tinefamily.com) know so I can open up more registration slots for that team.
